Island Resort - New WWTP
The client was very involved in the design and required a ‘bullet-proof’ solution that ensured protection of the surrounding coral reefs due to the sensitive nature of regeneration programs involving endangered sea life. The required solution had to be highly resilient to the operating environment and have in-built redundancies to ensure any issue that may arise is easily dealt with and performance is not compromised under any circumstance.
Brief: Design a system that incorporates existing infrastructure and provides the necessary desired results. For Earth was able to adapt our treatment technology to the existing tanks, enabling effective treatment of all the Wastewater from this large coastal hotel.
Many Pond systems develop treatment capability issues over time. For Earth’s unique Aeration and BioAugmentation technology is easily adapted to Pond systems to improve performance and alleviate many of the issues that arise.
We specialise in Biological Solids Reduction (in-situ desludging), that reduces sludge volume without physically removing any material from a large retention area e.g. Pond or Tank. This project required a 50% reduction in Volatile Solids over a 6-month period, the results were achieved in 5 months.
For Earth’s Low Energy Micro-bubble Diffused Aeration System is used to Aerate Potable Water Storage Dams and Tanks, maintaining DO levels and preventing stratification of the water column.
Total Aeration: 3.2kW (2 x 1.6kW systems, 1 per Aeration chain), low pressure blowers;
Bacteria dosing upstream and at inlet to WWTP;
Maximum Daily Flow Volume: up to 60,000L raw wastewater (no upstream collection chambers).
Configuration
2-chain continuous flow Bioreactor;
All Resort Wastewater flows to Catch Balance Chamber with inlet screening;
Catch Balance Chamber pumps to parallel rows of Aeration tanks, flow through thereafter is by gravity;
Outflow from Aeration tanks recombines to series of settlement tanks;
Final effluent is irrigated to jungle;
Desludging of any tank by gravity to onsite sludge drying bed - dried treated sludge to gardens;
Advantages
Simple and rapid implementation;

Self-sufficient on-island - no need for removal of solids or other external operations, eliminates barging and other logistics costs;
2-chain system enables redundancy - 1 chain can be isolated for maintenance or operate at half-capacity during extended periods of low flow (halves energy cost);
Minimal moving parts - 1 pump in Catch Balance Chamber and 2 Aeration Blowers, no complex electronics, PLCs, sensors or other equipment that will fail in a short time in this environment;
Basic operation: Resort personnel can be trained to operate and maintain the system in a few hours, troubleshooting is simple and does not necessarily require a technician to visit the island.
For Earth has implemented many systems of this type in a variety of sizes and configurations in locations where access is difficult.
The WWTP is designed specific to requirements for the situation.
The design is flexible and the Plant may be expanded or relocated at any time if desired.

Odour is a common issue in Wastewater Systems. For Earth technology addresses the root cause of odour and removes it at the source. Strategic dosing of For Earth BioPlus(R) (liquid beneficial bacteria) provides the following benefits that result in odour reduction:
Removes biological solids buildup on infrastructure (pumps, floats, concrete) - this reduces odour at the problem location and downstream from there. It also means less maintenance, breakdowns and degradation of infrastructure, thereby reducing hidden costs and increasing asset life;
